Winner at a thousand contests and active participant at many thousands of flying sessions, FHS Red Max glow fuel had a modest beginning in 1969. Sales have steady increased since then and it has shipped into every US state and into a number of foreign countries. With the growth of our sales, our plant has grown and been modernized along the way (over 60,000 gallons in tank capacity alone).

Model fuel, also known as "glow-fuel" or "nitro-fuel", is usually a mixture of methanol (CH3OH) and nitromethane (CH3NO2), along with castor and/or synthetic based oils, various igniters, additives, and boosters. Methanol is also called methyl alcohol, wood alcohol, or just alcohol.  Nitromethane is also called nitro, or dragster fuel.  It is that extra oxygen in the nitromethane that gives it more power, so that more fuel can be utilized at a single time.  Model fuel usually contains from 0% to about 65% nitro, depending on the application. The oils are used not only as lubricants, but as coolants.

Your Red Max model fuel is manufactured to the strictest tolerances using the purest virgin materials tested to exacting specifications and the best pumps/mixers, micron level filters, metering equipment, and chemical drying systems available. It is again filtered and bottled directly from sealed storage on fast, efficient bottling equipment under controlled conditions. D.O.T.-UN certified bottles are immediately sealed with our hermetic sealing machine, insuring that the fuel is brought to you in the freshest condition possible. This airtight foil sealing is important as fuel can be degraded by moisture picked up from the air. Also, no brass touches your fuel at any point because brass reacts with and degrades nitro. We do everything possible to bring you fuel that is correctly made to exacting specifications.
